Unfortunately, Mother's Day weekend was a bust. Between rainy and cold conditions yesterday and cloudy and cool conditions today (with some wetter conditions for our SW CT folks), it wasn't the best weather weekend for outdoor activities. The week ahead looks warmer, but unsettled.
Tomorrow may actually be the pick of the week. Early in the day we will see some fog and cloudiness, but that will give way to partly sunny skies. Temperatures should be warm inland, with highs topping out in the mid 70s, slightly warmer than normal this time of year. Along the immediate shoreline, things should be a bit cooler where a southerly breeze kicks up. Overall, a good weather day.
The second day of the workweek will feel like summer. A cold front will approach from the northwest, and as it approaches we will see warm temperatures and increased humidity. Skies will likely be partly to mostly cloudy, and we will have to watch for thunderstorms and heavy rain showers throughout the day. Some of the severe weather parameters look favorable currently for strong to some severe thunderstorms, so stay tuned as we get closer.
These days look unsettled as well, but there is a lot less confidence in the outlook as the front that passes on Tuesday settles to our south. If it ends up further north, we would see more wet weather in the form of scattered showers on Wednesday. Thursday looks dry, but again, that depends on the position of the front. Temperatures will be cooler than on Tuesday, but still relatively warm for most.
Keeping with the theme of the week, the end of the week and weekend look unsettled. How much remains to be determined. This is due to an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico that could factor in how much moisture gets transported to our region. Some of the guidance has a tropical tap open up overhead as a ridge of high pressure in the Atlantic funnels moisture toward the region. However, anytime we're talking about tropical connections and Gulf lows, things are subject to change.
