7 Day Forecast Discussion for Week of 11/9/14

11/9/2014

Comments

Good evening from Southern Connecticut Weather!
Today we enjoyed mostly sunny skies and seasonable temperatures, ranging from the low to mid 50s over a good portion of the state. Look for conditions to remain mostly tranquil through this evening with temperatures dropping back through the low to mid 30s inland, and mid to upper 30s south of Interstate 95, with mostly clear conditions.

Looking ahead to Monday and Tuesday this week, temperatures look to moderate through the 60s with mostly fair conditions. Temps at night won't be too chilly with most of the state staying in the 40s and even around 50 come Tuesday. On Wednesday we are watching for a low pressure system to track through the Great Lakes and affect our weather by bringing in mild temperatures and occasional showers. As the low continues to track north and east through Canada, winds will begin to increase out of the north and northwest ushering in much colder temperatures and putting an end to the mild temperature regime that will rule the weather early this week.

The state's first chance at its first widespread snow looks to come in the Friday through Saturday time period. Precipitation may start first as rain, and then change to snow on Friday night as we lose daytime heating and temps drops in the southern third of the state. Areas north of the parkway do look as though they will be 90-100% snow. This does not look to be a major nor'easter by any stretch, and intensity of precipitation could vary great as this disturbance will create "squally" conditions as opposed to more uniform precipitation intensity. As far as accumulations go, right now it looks very minor, we are 5+ days away from the "event", but it does look to be enough to put a nice snowy coating on the grass, all the way to the shoreline.

Looking ahead long term, it does look as a cold  pattern will settle in through the end of the month. Also keep our eye on a potential disturbance for the  next Tuesday (11/18) time period. Long range models hinting at temperatures over the next 15 days being WELL below average. We will have to watch this period very closely as we could have a very early start to a potentially snowy winter.
