Happy June! Today was a gorgeous day, with the state seeing lower humidity readings, seasonable temperatures, and sunny skies. It was a great day to be outside!
Our wet pattern continues however, with a return to cold and rainy conditions tomorrow followed by warming temperatures over the next week. Let's get to it.
Monday
Unfortunately, after a beautiful day, change is in the air. An area of low pressure will exit the Mid-Atlantic region and move northeast, bringing rain to the state. Rain should overspread the state through the overnight and early morning hours, and tomorrow's commute looks wet. The afternoon looks to be a touch drier, but any rain that falls during the day may be heavy at times. Even worse, we'll go right back to downright cold and breezy conditions for this time of year. 50s in June? Awful.
Tuesday looks slightly better than Monday, with warmer temperatures and a reduced chance of showers. Even so, it looks like a good day to hold onto the umbrella as another area of low pressure develops and marches itself right over us. Wednesday could be wet as well a result, but depending on the timing Wednesday could see some drying out. That looks like a day for the handy umbrella too.
Thursday-Friday
I have hope. After multiple areas of low pressure pass by during the first half of the week, high pressure looks to build in toward the end of the week, bringing warmer and drier conditions. As we get toward the end of the week, any shower chances will be the typical ones that come with weak frontal passages and daytime pop ups.
The Weekend
For now, the guidance is split. There are indications that Saturday could be great, with high pressure remaining in control and overhead. Other guidance, most notably the latest GFS operational run, shows showers and another wet weekend. At the moment, I think the rain chances are overdone. Other forecasts this week will hone in on the weekend but right now I wouldn't change any plans.
Monday: Rain, heavy at times, with breezy conditions. Highs in the 50s. Chance of rain 100%.
Tuesday: Showers, otherwise mostly cloudy. Highs in the low to mid 60s. Chance of rain 50%.
Wednesday: Showers, otherwise mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid to upper 60s. Chance of rain 40%.
Thursday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Friday: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Chance of rain 20%.
Saturday: Partly sunny with increasing clouds. Highs in the low to mid 70s.
Sunday: Rain possible. Highs in the mid to upper 60s. Chance of rain 40%.
Final Note
With the start of June, we are now in meteorological summer, which lasts the months of June, July, and August. May was the 4th warmest in parts of CT. It was an odd month with 4 days over 90 degrees at BDL and 3 days with highs in the 50s. What good are warm days if the weekends are wet and cool though?
