Forecasters Discussion for 11/10/2015

Good evening to you from Southern Connecticut Weather!

As you can see on the radar image below, rain covered much of the state this evening, with two notable holes. The first hole was over the Southwestern part of the state away from the coast, and the second hole was over the Connecticut River Valley. Right along the Southwest coast, light drizzle was falling. As the first area of low pressure pulls away, most of the rain associated with that will be in the tapering off stages, from Southwest to Northeast, as the evening wears on. However, a second area of low pressure will track over nearly the same area as the first low. This will bring more rain into the state, again from Southwest to Northeast. This area of steadier rain will develop near the Southwest coast just after midnight, but will take until a few hours later for it to overspread the entire state. Rain from this wave should end around dawn or just a bit after along the Southwest coast, and take a few more hours in the Northeast. After the rain pulls out tomorrow, some afternoon sun will be possible along the Southwest coast, but clouds should linger all day in the Northeast. High temperatures should range from the low 50s where clouds hang on and in higher elevations, to some upper 50s in urban areas that see any sun.

Unfortunately, there won’t be much of a break from the rain, as a frontal system approaching the state will bring more rain on Thursday. Rain should overspread the state from mid-morning along the New York border to just after the noon hour along the borders of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Rain should be over in most places during the evening hours. High temperatures should not have much of a range on Thursday, due to clouds and precipitation, and should generally range in the 55-60 degree range. A fair, but chilly weekend is in store for the state, as colder air will filter in behind Thursday’s cold front. The core of the cold air should be centered on Saturday. By Sunday, as high pressure moves offshore, temperatures should begin to moderate. High temperatures should be in the 50-55 degree range across the state on Friday, cooling to the 45-50 degree range for Saturday, and then bouncing back to the mid to upper 50s for Sunday.

Looking into next week, Monday should be just about a carbon copy of Sunday, with fair skies and high temperatures ranging in the mid to upper 50s. Tuesday should be a little cooler, especially in the Northeast, as something of a back door cold front- that is a front that moves in from the Northeast, rather than the traditional West to Eastward movement- approaches from that direction. This front should also bring a good amount of cloudiness, but it does not look like any rain associated with this front at this time. High temperatures on Tuesday should range from near 50 in the Northeast, to the upper 50s in the Southwest, depending on the timing of the front.

Now to sum everything up into a forecast:
Wednesday: Morning rain, then clearing skies Southwest, but remaining cloudy Northeast. Highs in the 50s. Lows in the 40s.
Thursday: Afternoon and evening rain. Highs 55-60. Lows: 40-50
Friday: Fair skies. Highs in the lower 50s. Lows in the lower 40s.
Saturday: Fair Skies. Highs in the upper 40s. Lows in the lower 40s.
Sunday: Fair skies. Highs in the upper 50s. Lows in the upper 30s.
Monday: Fair skies. Highs in the upper 50s. Lows in the lower 40s.
Tuesday: Partly sunny Southwest to cloudy Northeast. Highs 50 to 60. Lows from the upper 30s to the mid 40s.
Finally, before we go, we'd like to wish a happy Veterans’ Day to all of our veterans and current members of the Armed Forces from the staff of Southern Connecticut Weather! Thank you for the sacrifices you have made in your lives to serve your country.
The next forecast update will be Thursday evening, unless changes are needed regarding Thursday's rain event. Have a great night!
