Forecasters Discussion for 3/5/2016

3/5/2016

Comments

Good evening to you from Southern Connecticut Weather!

After a bit of snow yesterday, the upcoming forecast period will take a dramatic turn towards spring, with temperatures running well above normal throughout the period and climbing as high as seventy degrees on Wednesday! While we could see some precipitation coming later in the week, for the most part, tranquil weather will be the rule for the forecast period.

Tonight, a weak shortwave moves through the region and could touch off some light snow showers across the state, however, due to a strong pool of dry air in place at the surface, coverage and intensity of those snow showers will be limited. Some isolated coatings of snow are possible overnight into tomorrow morning; however, no significant impact to the state is expected. Clouds clear west to east throughout the morning into early afternoon, and that will make for a beautiful late winter day, with highs in the low to mid 40s and mostly sunny skies in the afternoon.

On Monday, a weak clipper system will pass to our north, possibly bringing a few scattered showers to the state, but for the most part, cloudy yet dry conditions will be the rule. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s across the state.

Temps continue to climb as we move into the middle of the week, with highs on Tuesday getting into the lower 60s, and into the lower 70s on Wednesday, with partly sunny skies Tuesday and mostly cloudy on Wednesday. Considering that the date where the average high in Hartford reaches 70f is May 14th(For perspective, the average high on March 9th is 45), it’s quite an impressive display of springtime weather for the date.

While the extreme warmth won’t last beyond Wednesday as a backdoor front moves in from our NE, we will still remain well above average, with highs near 60 on Thursday, in the lower 50s on Friday, and in the mid to upper 50s both days next weekend. We’ll likely see some showers on Thursday into Friday from an overrunning system that will bring some weak waves of precipitation to the area, but wintry weather is not expected.

Overall, a quiet and comfortable week ahead! Here are the dailies:

Sunday: A slight chance of snow showers, otherwise, partly sunny, with highs in the low to mid 40s. Chance of precipitation is 20%
Monday: A slight chance of showers, otherwise, partly cloudy, with highs in the mid to upper 40s.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, with highs in the low 60s.
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Thursday: A chance of showers, otherwise, mostly cloudy, with highs around 60. Chance of precipitation is 40%
Friday: A chance of showers, otherwise, mostly cloudy, with highs in the lower 50s. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with highs in the mid to upper 50s.

Have a great rest of your weekend and thank you for reading SCW!
