Forecasters Discussion for 6/12/18

Good evening from Southern Connecticut Weather!

Certainly doesn’t feel like summer yet! The past week all we saw were clouds and cooler temperatures, but I have good news. After a little midweek system, we have some really great summertime weather to look forward to this weekend.

Tonight
A warm front will approach from the southwest, part of the system that will bring us some rain Wednesday. Tonight temperatures shouldn’t drop as low as they have before with the passing of the warm front, expect mid 50s.

Wednesday
Showers ahead of the warm front should enter the CT area late-morning, and are expected to taper off late evening. With moist air in place, the passing of the cold front late Wednesday night could bring some convective showers through overnight, but nothing to significant to worry about.

Thursday - Friday
As our low pressure system moves out to sea, a nice upper level ridge looks to move in and stay for a while. A breezy Northwest flow should bring nice dry, warm air to New England. So expect temperatures in the upper 70s for both days, and wonderful weather outside.

Here's a look at that ridging on the GFS.

Saturday-Monday

High pressure will move to our South, and the clockwise flow around the center should pull warmer air from the southeast up to the state. Dew points will slowly increase all the way until Monday, meaning it won’t be humid weather, but it won’t be dry like Thursday and Friday. Temperatures should reach the mid to high 80s. For Monday, GFS output is roasting the CT coastline with temperatures in the 90s. I think with the possibility of convective clouds forming, temperatures won’t reach the 90s for most of the state because clouds in the mid-afternoon could block out the sun. That would prevent temperatures from climbing as high as the GFS suggests, but again it could be a hit or miss depending on the thickness and placement of the clouds. I will go with a conservative forecast and say high 80s for Monday.

Tuesday
A Great Lakes system looks to bring cooler temps and rain to the New England region, but GFS output isn’t too impressive in terms of the amount of precip. Therefore I would say a chance of rain and highs in the 70s.

The Dailies:

Wednesday: Rain showers in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s. Chance of rain 60%.

Thursday: Becoming mostly sunny. Breezy. Highs in the high 70s.

Friday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. Great weather.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 80s.

Sunday: Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 80s.

Monday:  Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 80s.

Tuesday: Chance for showers. Highs in the mid 70s.

Thank you for reading and enjoy your evening!
