Winter-like pattern finally breaks by the end of the week, bringing more seasonable conditions...

Hello and Happy Mother's Day from Southern Connecticut Weather!

It was a rare winter day in May yesterday, as a lot of us saw cold temperatures and snow! Although the next few days will remain colder than normal and there may be other chances for frost this week, the winter-like pattern that held on for the last six weeks is finally coming to an end. In its wake, we will start to see a recovery toward more seasonable conditions. Let's take a look at the week ahead.
A time lapse from yours truly of the final snow squall that passed through central CT yesterday. Measurable snow on May 9th!

Sunday-Monday
Today isn't really part of the forecast period, but it's Mother's Day and I think you should get some good news. Today looks fantastic! We're still below normal in temperatures, but with partly to mostly sunny skies and warmer conditions, it will feel much better today than yesterday.

We will see a break in the nice weather on Monday, as showers and thunderstorms move through the region during the day. It's certainly an umbrella day if you have to be out. We do not expect any severe weather.

Tuesday-Thursday
The middle of the week looks very nice, albeit colder than normal. Our Monday storm departs and we see sunny conditions for an extended period of time, relative to the wet and cloudy pattern we've seen. For those with sensitive plants, each morning brings the potential for some frost, especially for inland areas, so be sure to protect your plants! Even along the shoreline I'd be a bit more cautious, though the odds of a frost or freeze are lower there.

Friday
Friday is our transition day. Another area of low pressure looks to move toward the region, and that means that Friday, at least early on, should have some shower and thunderstorm chances. However, with that weak system will come warmer temperatures. Right now, things look to clear fairly quickly leaving us in position to have a nice weekend!

Saturday-Sunday
Right now, next weekend looks great. We should see temperatures much more reflective of mid-May. There could be some clouds around as we track the progress of a backdoor cold front, but overall, I really like the potential for a nice and warm weekend.

This is an European Ensemble look at the upper level pattern over the last few days, along with a projection by the weekend. We're not entirely there in terms of the pattern change, but we're certainly out of the winter-like pattern by the weekend!
