February has started just as January ended, a blowtorch. Currently, BDL sits at 7.4 degrees above normal. Not good for winter lovers.
The week ahead looks unsettled, and while there may be some wintry chances in there, we do not see a signal for significant winter weather.
Although there is some potential for rain/snow overnight, tomorrow should feature rain for much of the state. The only exception is NW CT, where a light accumulation of snow is possible. I do not anticipate significant delays or cancellations, however.
Tuesday looks wet as well as we see another area of low pressure traverse the region. Temperatures will be in the 40s, still above normal for this time of year.
Wednesday looks like the pick of the work week, as the storminess departs and we see clearing conditions. This will not last long however, as we turn our attention to our next storm system.
The guidance is in agreement that another storm system will likely impact the region on Thursday. There is a fair amount of spread, however, on how wintry this system ends up. Currently, it looks like an area of low pressure will develop and slide eastward. With some cold air in place, the precipitation looks to start off as snow or a mix, very early Thursday morning. However, the guidance agrees that this doesn't last terribly long, and that we switch over to rain. It's still too early to have strong confidence in significant frozen precipitation, but it is something to keep an eye on. A track further south could bring us our first real burst of wintry weather in at least a month. A further north track would bring mostly rain. I currently lean toward the latter scenario.
In the wake of the storm, things look to clear out. High pressure will settle in on Friday and Saturday, bringing some of the coldest conditions we've seen in a while. This would be enhanced if there is snowfall that remains from whatever comes Thursday. By Sunday, we may be tracking another rainmaker.
Monday: Mostly cloudy with rain for most and snow in the NW hills. Highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Chance of precipitation 80%.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. Highs in the low to mid 40s. Chance of rain 60%.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy with snow/mixed precipitation changing to rain. Highs in the mid to upper 30s. Chance of precipitation 60%.
Friday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Saturday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Sunday: Increasing clouds with a chance of showers. Highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Chance of rain 20%.
