As the title suggests, we are likely to remain in a wintry pattern through the next seven days. A brief period of snow is looking more likely on Tuesday, and although minor, it will certainly put a more wintry feel in the air. We will also see repeated blasts of cold air through the work week. Let's dive in.
First, SCW would like to thank all of our veterans for their service. Enjoy your day! Monday is looking decent weather wise. We will see clouds during the daylight hours and a chance of showers overnight. Temperatures are slightly below normal, but warmer than we've seen with highs in the low 50s. Monday will be the "warmest" day for the next week.
First flakes are looking likely for most on Tuesday. The day is likely to start off with rain statewide, as a strong cold front pushes through the area. We will see rain ahead of the front, and then a sharp temperature drop and the leftover moisture turn over to a brief period of snow, likely late morning into early afternoon from NW to SE.
We are expecting a coating to an inch possible in the northern hills, and a trace to a light coating in the rest of the state. That said, it doesn't take much to cause problems on the roads with dropping temperatures and any snow, so take it easy on the roads. We'll continue to sharpen this forecast as we get closer. Tuesday is also looking breezy with falling temperatures during the day.
Arctic chill. Record temperatures are likely on Wednesday, as the strongest shot of cold air yet arrives. We will see breezy conditions with wind chills in the teens and 20s, with highs likely to remain below freezing for most areas away from the shoreline. Big cold for this time of year! Nighttime lows could drop into the teens for most on both Tuesday and Wednesday night.
As you can see above, temperatures will moderate on Thursday and Friday. We expect quiet conditions, but there will be some weak areas of disturbed weather in the area. We'll watch that for shower or snow shower chances, but for now dry conditions are expected.
The weekend will bring another cold shot, bringing highs in the 30s on Saturday and highs in the 40s on Sunday. Things look quiet for this period.
