Hopefully your holiday weekend was great! Last week saw our first real encounter with "deep summer" as we saw a period of hazy, hot, and humid conditions, broken by thunderstorms on Saturday. The week ahead looks nice, with the first few days of the week dominated by high pressure. The end of the week is a bit more uncertain, but overall, conditions look fine with increasing heat and thunderstorm chances.
As I said above, the first half of the week look wonderful. High pressure will be in place, and that will lead to sunny, seasonably warm, and drier conditions. These may be some of the best days of July, as longer range signals point to hotter and more humid conditions by the middle of the month. The heat and humidity will begin to build the further we go in the week, and inland areas may see highs in the low 90s as early as Tuesday or Wednesday.
The first real chance of rain will come Thursday, as the high shifts away and we see increased chances of showers and thunderstorms. I don't expect washouts either day. Conditions will be warmer and more humid, and we may see our second heat wave of the year by the end of the week for inland areas. Currently, the weekend is looking fine.
We are watching the potential for some tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week, but currently anything that happens there does not look to have a significant impact here. That said, as tropical season begins to pick up over the next three months, it is important to review your preparedness plan.
If there is interest, I would be happy to write a post on New England Tropical Climatology. Just let me know in our Facebook comments!
